Celebrities come into our lives just like friends. They give us entertainment and bring us joy, laughter, and tears. They make us feel so many emotions without even knowing us. It’s so sad to grow up with someone on TV that makes us laugh every day to find out that they passed away and still see their faces on TV. Rest in peace to the following celebs who passed last year.
Pelé
Pele was born on October 23, 1940, in Três Corações, Brazil. Pelé was a Brazilian soccer player in his time he was the most famous and possibly the best-paid athlete in the world. He was part of the Brazilian national teams that won three World Cup championships (1958, 1962, and 1970).
Benedict XVI
Pope Benedict was born on April 16 1927. Pope Benedict was the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from April 19 2005 until his resignation on 28 February 2013. He was a priest in 1951 in his native Bavaria, Ratzinger embarked on an academic career and established himself as a highly regarded theologian by the late 1950s. He got appointed as a full professor in 1958 at the age of 31.
On 11 February 2013, Benedict announced his resignation, citing a “lack of strength of mind and body” due to his advanced age. His resignation was the first by a pope since Gregory XII in 1415 and the first on a pope’s initiative since Celestine V in 1294. He succeeded by Francis on 13 March 2013 and moved into the newly renovated Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in Vatican City for his retirement.
Barbara Walters
Barbara Walters was born on September 25, 1929. She was an American broadcast journalist who was known for her interviewing ability and popularity with viewers. Walters was a working journalist from 1951 until her retirement in 2015. Walters was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1989, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NATAS in 2000 and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.
Jerry Lee Lewis
Jerry Lee Lewis was born on September 29, 1935. He was an American pianist, singer and songwriter. Nicknamed “The Killer“, he was described as “rock ‘n’ roll’s first great wild man”. Lewis made his first recordings in 1952 at Cosimo Matassa’s J&M Studio in New Orleans, Louisiana, and early recordings in 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee. “Crazy Arms” sold 300,000 copies in the Southern United States. It was his 1957 hit “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” that shot Lewis to worldwide fame.
David Gottesman
David was born on April 26 1926 He was an American businessman and billionaire. He founded First Manhattan Co. His father, Benjamin, worked as a banker and investor his mother, Esther. She played a key role in procuring the Dead Sea Scrolls for Israel. He had two siblings, Milton and Alice.
He was also a nephew of American pulp-paper merchant, financier, and philanthropist Samuel Gottesman. The family relocated to New Rochelle, New York, during Gottesman’s childhood. He joined the US Army after high school. Upon his return from military service after an honorable discharge, he obtained a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College.
He then undertook postgraduate studies at Harvard Business School, graduating with a Master of Business Administration in 1950. In 1963, he met and befriended Warren Buffett at a Wall Street club lunch. Who recognized their identical approach to purchasing value stocks. They soon became good friends. Also they would have conversations every Sunday night over the phone about which stocks to invest in.
Over the next two years, Gottesman traveled often to Omaha, Nebraska, where Buffett resided, to meet during the later part of the day and discuss ideas into the early hours of the morning,
